Janis L. Fowlkes, age 48, of Venice died April 6, 1997. Born February 28, 1949 in Tampa, she moved to this area 17 years ago from New Orleans, LA.  She was a Public School Teacher for many years at Englewood Elementary, Venice Area Middle School and Laurel Middle School.  She was a member of South Venice Baptist Church, and sang in its church choir.  She is survived by her spouse, Richard; parents, Earl and Lillian Nicks, Plant City; one son, Travis Fowlkes, Englewood; one brother, Emery Nicks, Texas; and family of friends from the USF Baptist Student Union. Memorial services will be Saturday, April 12, 1997 at 10:00 AM at South Venice Baptist Church.
